Hi Clover

There is absolutely no need for an exotic vet for
this. It takes all of 5 minutes to scale...not even
that long. And I believe it is important to have more
than one vet...especially one that treats mostly cats
and dogs but will try to increase his or her skills on
a ferret.

Cleaning the teeth at least on the Buccal will be easy
for any vet. The bleeding is from gingivitis. Heavy
bleeding from just touching the gums indicates a
serious infection. Antibiotics for humans can help
with periodontal disease. But the cleaning must also
be done. I cannot see why this would not be true for a
ferret.

Just call around the area. I have a really nice group
of vets that are a Godsend for me. They are close by,
have great hours, lower prices by far than the exotic
vet, and give the initial exams, distemper shots and
ivermectin shots. They put my babies to sleep when it
is time. They give Melatonin injections...I was their
first person to try this with. And it went well.

Show up on time, keep your appointments, pay your
bills right off, and you should have little problem
finding someone closer by and willing to learn a wee bit.
