Hi Wendy;

I do not believe that advantage will kill ear mites or any other mite. Revolution and front line can help you with that - Also ear mite specific meds. I have even heard of oil in the ear for 3 days in a row to smother them.

In addition to anemia (which occurs with long term heavy infestation and feeding), fleas are painful when they bite, they can cause wounds which can get infected, they CAN carry disease (most notorious was the black plague - a bacterium, Yersinia pestis) and they can still carry various diseases.

Your greatest fear is that you won't get them all - WHO? the fleas?..

OK if the ferrets got wet after applying Advantage; the meds probably washed off.. if not then there is a chance that most of the meds wicked up the hairshaft rather than onto the skin. Also if the advantage was old there is a chance it was not effective.

So next time you apply a topical liquid make sure you have fresh meds, a good part in the hair, and get the meds close to (ON) the skin.

Wicking is why I don't use Revolution alone for flea protection.

Wendy, honestly I can't be sure that any of what I said occured with you and your ferret, but it is all a possibility to consider. Best of Luck to you guys.

Vicki

Ahhhhh

I have just found 2 fleas on my black eyed white ferret. The sable
one, I cant see any. I knew that I shouldnt have baby sat my sisters
cat overnight.

Anyway, I know about getting Revolution, Advantage and Frontline.

I would like to know more regarding the effects fleas have on ferrets.
Apparently they can get anemic? Any other info on this.

My greatest fear now is that I wont get them all (because it was only
one month ago I gave each 1/2 tube of Advantage trying to eliminate
any mites - and all this time it may have been the flea/s).

Thanks for your advice.

Wendy
