Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with leason/wound suspected melanoma...
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi everyone.

My ferret Boo Boo had a small 'lesion' on his side that had a rather
large scab. A visit to the vet concluded after removing the scab that
it 'may' be melanoma, but not suspected to be mast cell. When I took
him to his surgery appt (Friday 14th) the teeny scab that formed had
fallen off and the area seemed to be healing, and slightly yellowish
in color.

This evening Boo Boo was sitting partially on one side and I noticed
an 'angry red' area visbible through his fur and inspected the area.
The area, btw, is on the OTHER side from the lesion that healed.

It looks almost exactly the same as the one that was on the other
side, with the exception being a VERY red, deep red area (like
infection) surrounding the tiny, scab-covered wound. Boo Boo is
'almost white' so it's easy to see through his fur.

The vet said by all means to ask and see what others say, with regards
to the 'other' lesion, but it's since healed. I'm planning on taking
him back tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions or
advice I could pass on.

There is a photo, though it's not very clear (TERRIBLE camera), but I
think it shows enough to give an idea of what I'm talking about.

Since I'm not sending this via email, I'm going to attempt to create a
folder in the photos section and put the pic there. I'll title the
albume Ella Boo Boo (my name and Boo Boo's name).

Thanks in advance. I'm really just stumped by this. Oh, and I
thought maybe it could be a spider bite, but none of the others have
this 'wound,' and the cage is cleaned regularly and just cleaned with
all bedding laundered (and some new hammocks) as of Friday afternoon.

Thanks.
Ella
