Dear Ella:
Melanomas are extremely uncommon in ferrets, so I am not going to
worry about that at this point. Julie's post about the waxing and
waning nature of mast cell tumors is correct, but I would also not
totally rule out the possibility of a sebaceous epithelioma, the
most common skin tumor in ferrets and one that often has a scabby
appearance in the early stages.
I think eventually you will probably have this problem removed when
you grow weary of it getting better and worse again.
