I buy cheap rolls of linoleum (Home Depot and Lowe's often have 8x10 or 9x12 rolls for a low price and then there are remnants). These are great if you don't care about color. :-)

I have hardwood floors I want to protect, so I just lay the linoleum down and tape down any seams. I roll it up the side of the wall just a bit and put a few staples in to hold it. It works well, and when they mess up a particular area really bad so the mess soaks through, you can just cut out the bad part and patch it. I buy cheap cotton rugs from Walmart and lay those all over the floor to give them a little more grip and of course they tunnel all through them.

Hope that helps.

Is there anything such as a ferret-proof affordable floor? Although my
babies are kinda trained, our recent adoptee is not. We tried to
replace carpet with cork, only to be told cork was about 3 times more
expensive. We're trying to find affordable flooring that is safe for
fert health, cleanable, they can run on and not slide too much, and
that they can't tear up too badly when they dig.

Suggestions?
