Subject: [ferrethealth] Insulinoma???
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Hi
I've got a little female fuzzie, Zena who when I went to get her out of her favourite sleepy place was in dire difficulties. She was staggering, drooling slightly and her head was leaning off to the left (the tilt was so bad my son referred to it as being on backwards) It was rather gross. When put down on the floor she would stagger to the left, she actually went in complete circle and seemed unable to control this. She also fell over. As I hadn't seen her eat today I quickly picked her up and fed her some duk soup, within minutes her head had straightened out, and she could walk without too much trouble. She would stagger a little if she turned quickly but appeared almost normal. She went about her business stealing everyone's toys and stashing them in her hidey. She's curled up in her favourite hidey again. I checked on her a few minutes ago but she seems glassy eyed and not well.
I've made an emergency vet appt for her at 5:30 this afternoon.
Any ideas about what we should be looking for, there will be blood work done, but anything specific would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking insulanoma but I would appreciate anybody's idea on this. I guess a fasting blood sugar is out of the question as I fed her. Her appetite is amazing (she loves to eat), since coming here she's put on weight. Her activity level has always been low as she's about 7 or 8 yrs old. She's a Marshalls rescue and I know very little about her other than that she's been shuffled through half a dozen or more homes in her little life. Oh, she's severely lacking fur on her tail, about 1/2 way up to the end, she's puttin on a beautiful winter coat though. Her vulva is not swollen and she doesn't smell funny nor is she aggressive (actually she's very passive little thing, a bit of a loner), and she doesn't appear to be any itchier than any other ferret.
Thanks
Ciao
