Subject: [ferrethealth] Trouble testing BG on my ferret
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I've been getting a little concerned about my ferret, Tanner. He's been
losing weight at a time when he should be gaining. (Not much, just
enough to have me concerned.)

I just got a Bayer Contour glucometer, and I tried to use it to test
his BG, just to make sure. The problem is, I can't seem to get a large
enough sample size using the lancet they included. (It's called
the "Ascensia Microlet".) I've tried on a paw pad, ear, and leg. No
luck.

Has anyone here used this meter with their ferret? Any suggestions for
getting a large enough sample? I don't really want to take him in for a
vet visit just for a glucose sample, especially since he hasn't really
shown any other symptoms. I'm testing him primarily for my own peace of
mind.

Thank you,

Becky
