Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Lymph fluid in the abdomen
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I had this happen to a cat of mine years ago. The most likely cause
in a ferret is lymphoma. The actual cause is a leak of the thoracic
duct into the abdomen. This fluid can look like milk and is high in
fat content. The cause of the damage to the duct can be trauma, a
mass in general, lymphoma, in some cases forms of TB. The cause was
never found in my cat. Exploratory might be worth doing but suspect
they can't repair it. We usu see this leak in the the chest not the
abdomen. My cat was explored (I wasn't a vet at the time) and they
took samples of all sorts of things and nothing came of it. Within a
couple of weeks he got worse started having seizures etc.

Hope that answers everyones questions. I know it is dismal
occassionally if you fix the primary problem it will resolve, I have
seen it with thoracic damage not yet abdominal. All the best and
good luck.
