Subject: [ferrethealth] Screaming question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I'd like to know if a ferret is in pain when it screams during a
insulinoma seizure, or it is an involuntary reaction. I was told once
that the screaming does not mean they're in pain, but I wanted to know
if anyone else can confirm this.

Our 10 year old girl, Junebug, started having seizures early Sat
morning and screamed all through them. Needless to say, it was very
upsetting and we felt utterly helpless. As soon as the vet's office
opened we had her put to sleep. She was an old gal and had a great life
but I hate to think she suffered in the end. As far as I could tell she
was completely out of it the whole time.

If we have an old or very ill ferret we usually opt to have them die
peacefully at home while we hold them. But if the screaming means
they're in pain I would want to get them to the vet asap.

Thanks!
Lisa
