Subject: [ferrethealth] Advice about Limphoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret's name is Valenti(no). He is 3 years and 4 months old.
Lately he's been loosing a lot of weight. He never was a big ferret,
never got to 1kg.
Now he weights 550gm.
I thought it's because he was with 2 other ferrets for the past
month, and one of them (the dominant one) abused my ferret so that
he wouldn't eat when the dominant ferret was around and always hid
under or on the couch. He was terrified from that dominant ferret.

3 months ago, the vet (one of the best ones in Israel) felt
something inside Valenti. We decided to do an ultrasound and we did
it 3 days ago.

Well, the ultrasound expert that checked Valenti, said that you can
see alot of Lymph nodes and the spleen is inlarged and also the
liver a little bit.
The vet said that it's 75% that Valenti has cancer, and if he does-
it's probably Lymphoma cancer. He said that he has 1 months to 6
month to live. The only way to know for 100% is to operate, and
because he's so underweight and weak, he won't survive the operation.

The last 3 days, since that day, I haven't stopped crying. I didn't
know what to do next - another vet opinion, alternative medicine,
steroids (which was the vet's advice).

I decided to give him steroids, since yesterday evening. because he
hasn't eaten all day long - only treats but not real food.
Since I gave him the staroids, he's been feeling alot better.
eating, drinking, sleeping in a slightly loosened position.

What's weird is that he's blood tests came out PERFECT!!!
isn't the white blood cells supposed to go up and the red blood
cells down???

and also, for the past 3-4 days Valenti keeps loosing his anal
glands. the vet said it's because of stress(??)
He does it when I pet him, when he sleeps, all the time. He never
done that unless other strange ferrets was around.
With the dominant ferret, he used to do it alot! so I think it got
something to do with that.
What do you think? What should I do next?
Right now he's sleeping alot but can get to the litter by himself
and ones in a while hides a toy under the closet, so I think for now
he's doing ok.
