Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Overweight ferret
I don't know how widely spread this is among mammals,
but in some studies some individuals who have been
starved short term can have metabolic rate reductions
which make it easier for the body to put on weight and
make it harder to lose it. Note that I am not talking about
just less feeding but with enough nutrition, but am
speaking of a diet that is nutritionally insufficient, as can
happen to strays or to some abused animals.
Also, if you are in the Northern hemisphere, it is Autumn
so ferrets are putting on weight, anyway, but I seem to
recall that you are in Australia.
