Subject: [ferrethealth] Broken toe?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Murray the ferret likes to sneak into the pantry to have a look
around. He gets up on the shelves and explores. Yesterday, he was in
the pantry and must have slipped. I heard cans hit the ground and some
really fast dooking. Murray ran out of the pantry favoring one foot.
Last evening he did come out and play some, still favoring the foot,
but able to walk flat footed. He did not pull the foot up high or drag
it at all, but it was obvious that it was sore. This morning, the foot
is somewhat swollen (enough for me to notice) and is red. Again, he
does use it, but you can tell it is tender. My question is what should
I look for when looking for broken toes and what type of care do
ferrets get when they suffer a broken toe? Do they splint ferret
feet? No bone is protruding but the swelling makes me a bit
concerned. My ferret vet is out of town until Thursday. I have made
an appt. for then. He is eating, drinking and pooping without any
problems. Any advice?
