To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Lymphoma is a fatal illness, and a ferret with it passes much more rapidly if it is not
treated usually.
Can Pred be a risk? If an ulcer starts up it certainly can. In such a case the ferret will pass
black or dark green tarry feces, or may vomit blood or what look like coffee grounds.
Ulcer avoidance is why always giving Prednisolone or Prednisone with food is so strongly
emphasized, and why giving Carafate (at a different time from other meds) is also
mentioned over and over.
In some cases of bad heart disease it may also pose a risk.
Could you, please give the CONCENTRATION of the med? It will the milligrams per
milliliter which will look like mg/ml. Without the concentration also given the ml (cc)
number does not say how much medication is given. That is because those meds come in
multiple concentrations so it is like the difference between the amount of chicken in a
chicken broth (low concentration) vs. the amount in the chicken puree (high
concentration).
For example,
0.5 ml of the 1 mg/ml concentration has 0.5 mg of medication
0.5 ml of the 2 mg/ml concentration has 1.0 mg of medication
0.5 ml of the 5 mg/ml concentration has 2.5 mg of medication
and
0.5 ml of the 7 mg/ml concentration has 3.5 mg of medication
Not treating lymphoma is worse than treating with proper care.
