Subject: [ferrethealth] Patchy hair loss, itching
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My Bailey, who's about 5-6 years old, began to shed his coat for the
season like he usually does, but we noticed that instead of the hair
being shed in the regular pattern, he was getting thinning or bald
patches and itching them a lot.

I know hair loss/itchy skin are two common signs of adrenal disease,
which we know is possible, but we've seen several adrenal ferrets over
the past few years and their hair went in a pattern (up the tail, the
spine, around the ears and top of head).

Bailey's itchy balding spots are on his tummy, one of his shoulders,
and the base of his tail (not the tip). What skin conditions causing
itching and hair loss like this are most common in ferrets? Probably,
we'll have to make a trip to the vet soon, but I just wanted to have a
general idea of what we might be dealing with here.

Any help appreciated. Thank you. :-)
