Subject: [ferrethealth] Need help to solve a 4-5 month mystery.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Facts:
*Began getting lethargic and loosing weight in July 07
*Had bloodwork done and started giving antibiotics
*Antibiotics helped increase her appetite for ducksoup
*Bloodwork indicated significantally High White blood cell count and
high globulin.
* First vet suggested it may be DIM or Aleutians or LSA
*Ferret began vomitting at least once a day and would claw at mouth
while vomiting
*began grinding teeth
*Started giving ferret carafate to ease her stomach
*Carafate helped
*Xrays with barium were done to see if there was any mass blockage in
her intestines, first vet did not see anything obvious
*However,In the xray you can see something in her stomach that looks
like a mass under her right rib cage, but they didnt think there was
anything just because the barium had passed through sucessfully
within 9 hours of digesting.
*Asked for carafate refill but was denied
*Ferret seemed to be doing okay without it
*Stopped Vomitting (It's been about two weeks now)
*Decided to get second opinion, they felt her belly and they felt a
hard mass on her right side(just like in the xray) and claimed it was
probably a tumor.
*Took more xrays and blood work and said her glucose was low and that
the xrays didnt show any obvious signs of any other organs being
effected by this "tumor."
*Had spoken to other people on other forums regarding the issue and
people who had ferrets with similar symptoms had "floating hairballs"
* Some people suggested it may be Juvinile Lymphoma or Adrenal Disease
* She eats only Duk soup, no hard food, doesn't really drink water.
* She has gained weight since then and has a good amount of energy
and very curious.
* At times she coughs
* Pretty Normal Bowel movements
* Good Appetite for the duck soup without antibiotics
* Has an irregular heart beat
* Still waiting on outcome of Sonogram and EchoCardiogram tests done.
Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated Thanks.
