Subject: [ferrethealth] SCAM (OT for the FHL but this scam is very well organized and Sandi's real gmail address has been usurped)

SANDI ROBINSON is NOT STUCK ANYWHERE! She is not in Argentina as
some mails people have received have said. She is not stuck in
Nigeria as the ones I got have said. She is not stuck in Africa as
some other people have received have said.
I have been in direct contact with James Barr who runs the sister
shelter to Sandi's Heaven Scent. He has been mailed the copies and
I was just now speaking with him on the phone. James told me about
the other places the person is claiming to be. He asked me to notify
people. Yesterday the people who contacted him to ask, given his
cooperative shelter relationship with Sandi, said that they were told
that she is stranded in Argentina. Today's mails place her in Africa.
All claim to be written by Sandi.
Gmail can be accessed as webmail so anyone who stole Sandi's
password can usurp her account. That theft can happen at a public
computer, or if a computer is not wiped well enough before repair, or
even using backdoor vulnerabilities in the software of some PCs.
This is entirely a scam. Normally, this would not appear in the FHL
but this scam is well organized with Sandi's real address usurped (so
someone has stolen her password)
At first I thought it might be real, but I know people who have --
for real -- been in that position and notified the person how to
handle that situation for real (contact the issuer of the travelers'
checks, and contact the U.S. Embassy) so I replied and the person
again asked for money, so someone really has usurped Sandi's gmail
address (which she had better completely close and replace) and her
password and is trying to gouge worried ferret people.
There is an alternative address showing up on some of the mails
others have gotten but James says that he was phoned by someone
with that address who had also been sent the fake "Sandi" letters, so
that person's (Scoobydoobie) account may also have a stolen password.
Does anyone know who that is at gmail? If anyone knows the person
and *another* way to contact the individual then that person needs to
know that address's password has been taken, because writing to the
address will only get the scammer.
As long as this message remains unchanged you may carry it to others
who need it to protect themselves.
This is posted as an OT note with permission of enough FHL
moderators because it may protect FHL members.
