I think you should discuss this with your vet who saw the incident first hand.

The reaction was not a severe one given your description and that Epi was not used but
certainly the possibility of a severe one in the future is there.

Even in states which require rabies vaccination there tends to be the option of skipping it for
animals who have specific health reasons to do so, but you will have to recall that if an
incident (bite) occurs then a supervised quarantine will be needed and demands of death
become more likely.

I have never seen anything that indicates the titers are reliable for rabies (unlike for canine
distemper where titers are reliable for dogs and hopefully will be for ferrets).

Changing the accepted timeframe for rabies vaccines is much harder than for distemper since
rabies is a zoonotic disease. Yes, it can be done, but it will be a harder project.

We personally do not repeat vaccines which have had reactions FOR THE INDIVIDUAL though
others in our family are vaccinated.
