Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Fat vs. Swollen Lymph Nodes?
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

"What other signs should I look for to tell the difference, or are
possibly swollen nodes enough indication for a trip to the vet? (we
have an excellent ferret-aware, not necessarily knowledgeable vet in
the area).."

Here is a simple test - fatty deposits that surround lymph nodes are squishy
and soft. Lymphoma or swollennodes are usually hard, like golfballs.
(Normal nodes are in between). For clinicians biopsying these nodes - fatty
deposits will float in formalin, while inflamaed/neoplastic nodes sink to
the bottom.
