Subject: [ferrethealth] Vaccines...
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Though I very much wish to keep my fuzzy babies healthy and safe, I
do not get my ferret's Vaccinated. The last time they were was in
2005. The reason for this is because all of my five ferrets had a
bad reaction to it. Some more than others. All of them got very ill,
to the point that i was afraid that, especially my older ones might
die. The younger ones got better within a day or two, but it
stressed one of my older females out so badly that she became very
ill. A couple of weeks later she developed a hairball, and her heart
stopped during surgery. They were able to start it back again, but
within an hour of bringing her home she died right before my eyes.
Ever since then I have been terrified of giving them vaccines. I do
not feel confident enough in my vet's abilities to give them
vaccines again. She is supposedly a ferret doctor, but there are
still plenty of things that she does not know. She is the best that
i could find in my area though. It might have just been a freak
accident, but i don't want to risk it to find out. I rarely take my
babies outside, and when i do, it is usually just a short walk
across the yard to my grandmother's house.
Anyway... The reason i wrote this was to get other ferret owners'
opinions on Vaccines. -ferretgrl04
