I just made an appointment with my local vet for my 3 Ohio girls ( couldn't
get into the really good one 2 hours away for a couple weeks). The local vet
(who I see for simple stuff usually-- like shots and quick exams) wants $70 each
ferret to ADV test and and additional $15 for heartworm.. this doesn't include
a touch of gas if they need to sedate them-- that's an extra $30 --

**My price for ADV testing (not including anesthetic, if needed), is $42,
which includes the overnight shipping. $70 strikes me as being a bit high, but
you need to look at the overall pricing/cost of living in your area.
Personally, I think the fifteen for heartworm testing is low, though! Mine is $32.

Costs vary dramatically across the country, I'm afraid.**

my question is-- am I crazy or are these prices out of line.. The other vet
is only charging $50 to spay-- how can a blood test cost more than surgery.?

**It is likely that the vet doing the spay is discounting because of the
rescue, as many of the ferret vets are doing. My regular spay price is about a
hundred, but I am discounting that by 50% for ferrets from the rescue (with
documentation that they are from it). You honestly don't break even doing a spay
for $50, folks. It's community give-back.**
