Subject: [ferrethealth] insulinoma question
To: Ferret Health <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Hi everyone,
My 5 yo male ferret River, was diagnosed w/ insulinoma a few months back. His glucose was averaging 68, so he was put on Prednisolone (5mg/5ml), .75ml twice a day. After he started the Pred, his levels went up to 90. I also had an ultrasound done on him, in which they could see 1 noticable nodule.

Now, I know that surgery is the best option for him, and he is scheduled for surgery next week.

But, surgery always makes me nervous... so I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I know that the Pred is worn off after about 8 or 9 hours... and that food has gone thru his system in about 3 or 4 hours. So, how could it be, that about 11 hours after his last Pred dosage, and about 5 hours after his last meal, that I see him running around, war-dancing, tunneling, playing..etc when his blood sugar should be at a low at this time? I've read that they can get accustomed to the low levels... but would they be running around like normal like that? I know a 68 BG is borderline... but should I wait on the surgery because it doesnt seem that bad to me, or am I doing the right thing here and getting the surgery done quickly?

Thanks all for any advice or info!
Andrea and River
