Hi Patty, Sorry, I shouldve been clearer, yes his vet is doing a partial pancreatectomy and not just removing the one nodule.
River was showing the clinical symptoms and had a few glucose readings... the last one prior to starting the Pred was 68. He was diagnosed back in January, but went thru a chemo protocol (small study done on this), and his readings were coming back in the 80's, but then about a month after the chemo ended, his levels dropped.
It just baffles me how energetic he could be when his sugar level should be at a low? Although he doesnt go for hours at such an energy level, its a good hour of running and playing. These guys never cease to amaze me!
I know I'm doing the right thing for him, but surgery always makes me nervous becuz I had lost one of my boys during one before. We are getting bloodwork and chest xrays done, so we're making sure he's in great condition for this.
Thanks for writing and explaining how some of yours had the nodes but not the clinical symptoms. Its a good point that you make to get the surgery done while the disease is in its early stages and he is more healthy at this point.
Thanks,
Andrea and River

I would definitely consider surgery for early insulinoma diagnosis. Even taking out part of the pancreas and not just the large nodule once in surgery since there can be very small insulinomas that are not visible on ultrasound and may be found while in surgery. I would also have the vet check the adrenals while in, because it is common to find early adrenal gland disease at your ferrets age and this can be taken care of as well.
