Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: ferret with enlarged abdomen

Hi Tony, Thank you for replying to my post! I brought her to a good
vet and after blood work x rays and ultrasound, good news its not
ascites its not fluid at all. Bad news, its fat in her abdominal
cavity and we have no clue whats causing it. So now I'm at the point
of doing an exploratory op next week, hes going to do an EKG first to
make sure her heart can handle a surgery. All we know for sure is her
adrenal gland is twice the size it should be, her entire abdomen is
full of fat, and we have located a fur ball LOL.

Blood work revealed that she probably also has IBD, but I don't think
that could have caused the fat. The doc said that during the
exploratory if the adrenal gland is cancerous hes going to take it
out, apparently thats dangerous because its pressing up against an
artery.

How did your little girl do after her exploratory surgery? If you had
to do it over again would you? This is my first ferret, and I am
shocked at this whole situation.
