Dr. Sue and Dr. Ruth,

Thanks so much for the responses. I really appreciate when vets take the time to respond. Many thanks to all others who responded, too. My vet clinic is probably the best around for ferrets, but they certainly aren't experts by any means. I went in yesterday with lots of research and responses from others - she (my vet) wasn't offended; in fact they love the fact that I am always doing research and am so observant of my ferrets behaviours. Lucky me!

So, here's the news on the "kit" with low blood sugar...

He went back to the vet yesterday for complete blood work. Everything was normal except the glucose - 53. But, one thing that was noticed - Friday I saw quite dark green/black tarter on his back teeth. I looked closer at all his teeth - he is definitely an adult. Once discussed with my vet, we guesstimated his age to be closer to 2 years, rather than the 6 months, as was listed on his records. That makes much more sense, and now does appear to be insulinoma. So, basically someone took him into Petco because they knew he had something wrong with him, and they apparently didn't want to take care of him anymore. *sigh*...

Anyhow, he will now live the rest of his life in a happy, loving, forever home. I am hoping to get him surgery soon (we want him completely stabilized - eating consistently, etc. before we proceed with that).

Thanks again (to everyone for your individual and list responses)!

Marie
