Our experience with one who suddenly ulcerated in the wrong location was that nothing
tried (oral liquid prep of Carafate spaced away from meds or foods, IV, IV antibiotics, oral
antacids) worked and death was rapid.
Otherwise, we have had wonderful results with Carafate for ulcers. It "bandages" them.
When the ulcers heal enough that stress won't pose risks Steve and I begin giving a couple
of weeks of Biaxin and Amoxi.
