Subject: [ferrethealth] Back leg problems and vomiting
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Lily, who's about 3 years old, has been having problems with one of
her back legs for the past couple (2-3) days. She's been walking with
a limp and it feels like the area around her joint in the bad leg
might be a little swollen. We don't really know how her leg got this
way, but seeing as she's a young energetic ferret, who's always
everywhere around the house we assumed she more than likely climbed
up somewhere, fell off, and sprained her leg.

Although she's been limping she doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain;
when I touch the injured leg she didn't jerk or act like it hurt much.
Today she's vomited a few times; I thought I should mention that just
in case, but she's been shedding lately and grooming a lot so
probably the vomiting is just because she has furballs.

What's the best way to keep her off her leg so it can heal? How long
should we wait for it to get better before seeking veteran help?

And, since we don't know for sure if she injured the leg or not, what
are some other things I should look out for (i.e. tumors? etc.) when
dealing with a ferret who's suddenly got a weak hind leg?

Thank you very much,
~Emily
