Subject: [ferrethealth] Lump on Rescue
To: <paferretclub@yahoogroups.com>, <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Does anyone have any idea what this lump might be?

Former owner was told by her vet that it was malignant and he would not live
more than a few weeks five months ago.

He is active and very playful. I will be taking him to my vet as soon as
possible, but wondered if it looked familiar to anyone.

Thank you.

Betty

[Moderator's Note: it looks like Betty tried to put a photo in the post.
Photos need to be put into the photo albums, with the name of the
album given so that people can find it.

A description would help, too: location, size, appearance, etc.

One type of tumor which can often be fatal in some other animals but
is pretty much invariably benign in ferrets is mast cell tumor of the skin,
but certainly there are a number of other differences between ferrets and
other species so that is a wild guess of just one thing which might get
that response from a vet who is not used to ferrets.

Of course, nothing replaces excision and getting pathology done.]
