What concerns me about this product is the tiny amount of Omega-3
and its ratio to Omega-6.
It says one serving contains
5 mg Omega-3
80 mg Omega-6
300 mg Omega-9
Omega-3 provides the greatest amount of health benefits, and has the
greatest amount of anti-inflammatory effect.
Recent research is showing the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 for
humans should be more like 1:1 and no more than 4:1. This product is
16:1. In humans Omega-9 is nonessential, it's produced by the body
when the body is 3 or 6 deficient, I don't know if this holds true
for ferrets.
Vivify uses poultry fat and olive oil as it's Omega sources, I
imagine most of our ferrets already have chicken fat in their diet
and so adequate intake of Omega-6 oils.
I'm just surprised they don't use a fish or flaxseed oil to make it
a better Omega-3 supplement.
Personally I occasionally pop open a strictly Omega-3 capsule of
fish body oil. They all love it and take turns licking it. I've
always been a bit wary because how much and how often for a 1 lb
animal hasn't really been determined. Now I wish I had started it
earlier and was more consistent with it but maybe it's part of why
my newly diagnosed adrenal baby has a great coat and a barely
palpable tumor.
(Not that this has worked to my benefit when looking for symptoms.)
Just saying I wouldn't bother with this one, I'd go for just an
Omega-3.
