Arlena, do NOT mix medicines together in a syringe. That is a fast
way to cause ingredient conflicts and to cause contamination.

Also, be sure to read the details on meds because
1. some conflict with other meds and need to be spaced apart in time
2. some should be given with food but others should have food avoided
3. some have other special instructions such as
A. avoiding strenuous exercise or weight bearing exercise
B. avoiding sun
C. avoiding certain minerals or vitamins while taking the med
D. keeping the med out of light
E. keeping the med from getting too hot or too cold
F. keeping the med from high humidity
G. avoiding certain herbals meds w some meds
Etc.

Info on those things can be found using some of the links in the
Links section of the FHL website.

Remember, too, that if a pill or caplet does NOT have a cutting
line on it then the med can NOT be counted on to be evenly
distributed throughout. If there is such a line you can cut and
know the doses will be reliable, but if not then the med has to
be crushed, mixed very well, measured, and given in with
something that med can be given with. NOT ALL MEDS CAN BE
GIVEN WITHIN THE SAME THINGS! Some you can give in water
but not others. Some you can give in oils but not others. Some
need to be shielded from saliva (which Nutrical/Nutristat does
pretty well). Etc.

Be careful when giving meds. You don't want them to be inhaled
because like other inhaled things there is the risk of aspiration
pneumonia.

There is a trick which Dr. Kemmerer-Cottrell put in a past issue
of Ferrets magazine which we find very useful because it gives
better control. Hold the syringe in the palm of your hand with
your fingers folded over it and use your thumb to control the
plunger.

Giving a little treat before and after a med can help w acceptance.
