Subject: [ferrethealth] ferret with insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 4 1/2 to 5 year old ferret (exact age unknown), diagnosed
with insulinoma on 10/01/07. The vet prescribed her own compounded
mixture of prednisolone 60 mg + ORA plus (this has been liquified) to
be given 1/2 cc bid.
(WHAT DOES THIS MEAN)? In addition I am feeding him prescription a/d
plus turkey baby food three to four times daily--I water this down a
bit. I mix his pred with his food after he has eaten. He hates his
pepto. He appears to have some type of sore in his mouth. But I
can't get his little mouth open. He refuses to go down the ramp to
drink out of his water bowl. So the own liquid he is drinking is what
I give him three to four times a day. Yes, I tried to put another
water bowl on his level, but his strong cagemate took it out. You
have to know his Denmark cagemate to understand this. I have an appt
with the vet tomorrow AM and I need to know what to ask her so I can
help my poor little ferret to hopefully extend his life. Yes I have
to hand feed him. Yes I will ask for an RX for liquid carafate. I am
trying to think of all the questions right up
front so we don't have to go through the question and answer thing
that most people have to. I have had ferrets for 10 years, but this
one is so sad. Any suggestions tonight?
