Hello over there!!

Photos show only half the truth!! Also a fact when wrinkles is being eradic=
ated with surgery or photomanipulation :-)

Actually it can be quite difficult to take a bloodsample of ferrets, rabbit=
s, guinea pigs and rats as well.
Almost always a slight anestsia is necessary.
If the jugular vein isn=B4t VERY easily seen, I have experienced following=
procedure to be very effective with obtaining a quick sample of adequate a=
mount, minimun chance of hemolysis and with minimun damage to vein and adje=
cent tissue.

Place the ferret in lateral recumbancy, right side up. Shave the area, and =
prepare as for minor surgery. Make a 3-4mm insicion (I fold the skin betwee=
n my fingers and use a half-moon shaped scalpel), cut gentle subcutane fat =
away with a blunt-end pair of scissors, and then you can directly see the j=
ugular vein. Make a light pressure on apertura thoracis, and then its no pr=
oblem taken a bloodsample.
Afterwards I just spray the area with "wound plast" and place a tiny piece =
of adherent polster (in Denmark known as the animal polster "Snogg"). It w=
ill fall of in 3-5 days, and the little incision is healed undramatically.

Hope it can help.

People sometimes ask how to get blood easily.

Here is an excellent photo of how a neck stick is done:

We usually give ours oil when they are done and they barely notice.
