Subject: [ferrethealth] Update on Basil's Adrenal
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Basil had her adrenal surgery last Monday, Nov 19th.

It was the left gland, about 1 and a half lentils in size. The vet
looked around at everything else, right adrenal looked good and no
insulinomas. The biopsy came back as an adenoma.

That night she had some drainage run out of the incision after she
pushed to go to the bathroom. But she mostly slept and had no
drainage the next morning. A couple more days and she was doing her
best to convince me that she was all better.

We let her friends visit for a bit and let them walk around in a
small enclosed area. They were adorable, they all started shaking
when they smelled each other. And all Basil wanted to do was clean
everyone's ears. On Friday she was back in the big cage to sleep
with them.

Now the the scab from the incision is falling off and her vulva has
shrunk.

She also appears to be growing in some new tiny hairs on the very
tip of her tail, where it never grew back after her rat tail. It
looks like somebody took scissors and snipped the hairs to create a
blunt end. In asking the vet about rat tail he said it most
certainly can be a symptom of adrenal. Now I see it was most likely
a symptom for her.

But she's doing really great, I'm just amazed at how fast she's
recovering. And since Basil was about a year old they've all been
provided with a lot of complete darkness. Basil's cage was next to a
window as a youngster before I read about light. So now I'm keeping
my fingers crossed.

Many thanks to those that replied to my many questions on and off
list!
