Subject: [ferrethealth] Regarding Prozac
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

About 5 years ago I had a good reason for trying Prozac on two
ferrets who were littermates..................with beautiful bodies
and stinko personalities. Of all my fuzzies, only these two would
try to bite me at any opportunity. I had them on the following
protocol given by Dr. Jerry Murray at the time and I have to say, it
worked VERY well. It takes at least 3 months to kick in, so the
person who gave it for 2 weeks didn't give it an opportunity to
work. Here is his recipe: (I had it compounded with a bubblegum
flavor and they had no problem accepting it) Gail

Yep the dose would be 1 mg/kg once a day orally.
If the generic version is 4mg/ml then the 3 pound ferret would
need 0.35mls and the 1.5 pounder would need 0.17mls.
The brand name liquid is a God awful tasting chocolate-
mint flavor. I am not sure about the generic version's
flavor, but you might want to check on that. A compounding
pharmacy can make a chicken or bubble gum flavor version
from the tablets. Again make sure the aggressive behavior is
not adrenal related before trying Prozac.
