There was a different genetic/structural biting issue with one of
the larger mid-sized farms many years ago. That one involved
gnawing -- really slicing cuts -- during teething. In that case the
farm was breeding for short faces and the individuals did not
have normal teething because some barely had room for their
teeth and some just plain didn't and even had palatine and other
mal-eruptions of some teeth.
That was not the only problem that particular farm encountered
when trying to get that look and great pelage. Achrondoplastic
dwarfism tends to often come with the kind of hair or fur which
leaves the rest of us permanently jealous, but it also can have some
very painful problems, too, and they began getting ferrets with
short faces, impossibly good coats throughout life but shortened
limbs, very painful joints, and other medical problems.
When biting happens in a line it can be from behavioral reasons
(and in that case also look at the treatment at the location) but it
also can be from bad structural changes.
Oh, and some structural changes to the jaw and how it fits can
cause dysphagia (trouble swallowing) in other species and that in
turn *might* make later esophageal problems more likely from
repeated wounding, and certainly presents an increased risk of
aspiration pneumonia.
