Subject: [ferrethealth] Cause of Ripper's liver/intestinal/tummy problems
The vet said that Ripper's lymph nodes (or glands, I can't recall which), the ones on either side of his large intestine where it attaches to his stomach, were inflamed because of a kind of hepatitis that's almost exclusively associated with adrenal disorder. He is only 2 1/2, and his adrenals appeared normal when she looked at them during surgery, so she thinks he is fine now but that it will develop later.
I'll have a panel run on him in January, and if anything looks off, we'll start meds. It's hard to have this ahead when we're just barely recovered from the surgery. I did see the summary of the ongoing research about the seasonal lupron block; the vet thinks we shouldn't do it unless something shows up in the bloodwork. I'm ambivalent about that, and will just have to give it further consideration.
He is recovering nicely, for what it's worth. Up at 4 AM, just like he used to be, and asking to go outside (hall of the apartment) two or three times a day.
Best to all, and thanks for your help,
Melissa
