I wanted to give everyone a final update on Vivi. We decided not to do
surgery to try removing the mass. When I called the vet to let her
know, we decided to try another Pred increase (0.66ml every 8 hours) to
see if that helped her feel any better. At first, it didn't seem to
help, but about 2 days after the increase she started to eating more
food at each feeding, and she seemed a little more enthusiastic about
it. The teeth grinding continued but wasn't as bad.
This lasted for about a week. Then on Tuesday (11/27/07), she just quit
eating. She ate just fine at her 1PM feeding and meds, but at her next
feeding she wouldn't eat. So, I began syringe feeding her but still
offered her food to eat on her own each time first, hoping that she
would decide to eat and was just having a bad day. But she was becoming
more annoyed with each meal, the teeth grinding was getting worse again
and she lost even more weight. Things were still the same the next day,
so I called the vet and scheduled her for an appointment Thursday
(11/29/07).
She still wasn't eating when we took her in, and her overall attitude
was going downhill. The mass had really grown since her last visit just
2 weeks ago. Other than the mass, the vet could only really feel her
right kidney.
We felt that more meds would have been just that...more meds. The mass
was taking over, she was in pain and we didn't want to see her go
through this anymore. And so we made the heartbreaking decision to help
Vivi to the bridge.
I think we did the right thing for her. But it was still so hard to say
goodbye. We miss her so much.
Rest Peacefully Vivi
