Subject: [ferrethealth] i am now confused

Russel is correct about your ferret probably having adrenal tumors, causing the hair loss. Healthy ferrets do not normally experience age related alopecia, such as a male pattern baldness, as people do.

Now for me - I know aplastic anemia is a concern when jills in estrus are not bred or spayed, but, I am not aware of that being a problem with adrenal ferrets. I thought the concern for swollen vulva's in adrenal females was bacterial infection, same as also in ferrets in heat.

Could someone please let me know if the anemia is a concern in adrenal females also... preferrably one of our very fine vets.

Vicki
