Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Newbie with a sick ferret

How is Louie's stool? Any diarrhea or dark stool? I ask because I had a ferret who swung back and forth between being quite overweight and quite underweight, and it turned out that he had IBD, or irritable bowel disorder. When his guts weren't feeling well, he didn't eat much and lost weight (and that's when we'd see unusual stool), and when his guts were feeling well, he overate (which would then irritate his guts, and bring us right back to square one).

The only way to conclusively diagnose IBD is through a biopsy of the intestinal walls, so you'd definitely need a vet's opinion on whether this is a possibility or not.

Regina
