I'm sure the vets can speak to this more accurately, but I would be
afraid to wait. I don't know how quickly the pred would work (or
even IF it would work to shrink the prostate), but I do know that a
blocked animal is a true veterinary emergency, requiring immediate
treatment. I've worked as a veterinary assistant for 6 1/2 years,
and I've seen cats die after only being blocked for a few hours.
(At least, that was the amount of time from when the owner first
noticed symptoms.)
One option you might try is to find a vet nearby who would be
willing to perform a cystocentesis in an emergency. (That is where
they use a sterile needle and syringe to manually remove urine from
the bladder). It wouldn't even necessarily need to be a ferret-
knowledgable vet. This would probably at least buy you a little
time to get him to your regular veterinarian.
Good luck, and brightest blessings,
Becky
**Not a veterinarian, please always consult with a ferret-
knowledgable veterinarian regarding your specific situation.**
