Jasmine,
We have a blind ferret. Have had Pogo about two years. He is about 8 years old. Has learned to negotiate the house without too many occasions of bumping into things. He can get through four rooms going through three doorways without coming close to the door frames. He finds his treats in the den and stashes them in the potato drawer in the kitchen. As long as we don't move any furniture, he is fine. Occasionally a cat will lay in his path. No problem. He just runs over the cat.
He can climb stairs to the second floor bed room and find the dig box there to play in. He doesn't run up or down the stairs like the other ferrets. It is a more deliberate action of nose against kick plates going up and caution of stepping out into space to the steps below on his way back down.. He is amazing. Has no fear. He hates being caged. Climbs the inside of his four foot tall cage for ten minutes or so every night before calming down and going to sleep. Good about using the cage litter boxes but not so good when out and about. Have plastic rug runners in favorite doorways. Six litter boxes in favorite corners plus rug runners. Biggest thing is not to move things once he has learned his way around the house.

Subject: [ferrethealth] Blind ferret question

Our vet believe and my husband and i agree that our 4(?) year old
ferret is blind. He walking into objects when they are moved or in the
middle of the floor. He tends to find his food by scent even when
placed directly infront of him--I am wondering if anyone has and
history of having blind ferret(s) and has any info for me. Thank you

Jasmine
