Subject: anesthetic for ferret
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Hi
I and my vet have a question regarding anesthetic protocol for ferrets that are going to be under anesthetic for min surgery time of 1 hr or more. We've gone over everything that was done regarding Athos' surgery. The surgeon did a beautiful job with the setting of the femur. Everything went fantastic until the very end. Athos was just being brought in from his post op x-ray and he stopped breathing. Within a few minutes his heart stopped despite every effort to resuscitate. The only thing we could come up with was the anesthetic combinations used. Could someone please advice what is normally used so that we might compare. We realize sometimes there is no apparent cause, and there are no real answers but my vet is very upset (to say the least so am I) and she's trying to learn so that she can better care for my guys. I also realize that you cannot give specifics and such, but even certain anesthetics to avoid or combinations would help greatly. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
