Sukie,

We also ruled out the heart from the xrays and the vet listening and determining a very strong, regular heartbeat. Also, there has been no congestion or coughing. As far as the syringe feeding, I appreciate your concern and tell others the same. However, we have had ferrets for 8 years and have beein doing small-scale rescue for about 5 and have syringed may sick and surgical ferrets and have way too much experience in that area. We have had a total of 21 ferrets pass thur our home with almost half those being elderly and sick.

As far as our treating, again, I understand your concern. Our county has one ferret vet, MINE, and they all use a centrally located emergency vet in our town for after hours and holiday hours. The emergency vet will not even see us with a ferret unless it's to put one down. We live in a retirement/resort area where anything but dogs and cats are foreign. It's really hard and we have had to learn to research and do some minor treatments on our own. Fortunately, our vet usually always agrees with what we had to do and up to this point we have been lucky. In the case of Elliot, had we not done something, I feel sure he wouldn't have made it thru last night. I'm am starting to agree with you that it may be the early stages of insulinoma or a diabetes and will have him at my regular vet first thing Wednesday morning for blood work to hopefully confirm that. I can deal with insulinoma. We had one guy who lived four and a half years after diagnosis with zero crashes just be sticking to a very strict, high protien diet on a regular schedule and pred. We feed Bob's Chicken Gravy regularly, even to the healthy ones. I also have had my share of lymphoma to deal with. I'll hope for the insulinoma.

Thank you for your quick response. I'm going to try another toe stick and blood test before his next feeding. We'll see what this one looks like.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

Holly
