Sukie,
Well said, and all valid points. I would not dispute anything you have
stated. However, to clarify I wasn't referring to websites as sources
of current research but to professional publications that are not
normally accessible to the general public, or to professionals without
a subscription.
Since most of the articles in the professional journals tend to be
written in highly technical language, they are not the sort of thing
most people would seek out. While some science writers do a good job at
interpreting the information for public consumption - others do not.
>From what I've read of your posts you do an exemplary job.
My comments were in response to a question as to why a particular
protocol was being taught when it wasn't commonly used in clinical
practice. My point was that this is not uncommon and often takes time
for the clinicians in the field to embrace and incorporate new findings.
That is the way the world of medicine, human and other species works.
As it turns out the information the poster was referring to appears not
to be current.
When I was referring to a clinician affiliated with a teaching hospital
I meant someone who both has a veterinary clinical practice and is doing
research, who may or may not teach as well. I didn't mean to imply that
all profs know more or know best. That's why people such as yourself
are extremely important and helpful because you bridge the gap and sort
the chafe from the wheat.
I agree that not all institutions keep their websites current. However,
the better ones certainly do. Still that was not the source I was
referring to.
Hope this clarifies my position.
