Subject: [ferrethealth] Surgery or No Surgery
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My ferret has been getting Lupron shots for adrenal gland disease.
Recently I noticed that her belly has become really distended. The
veterinarian says (upon feeling her stomache) that it is not her
adrenal glands that are swollen. She thinks that she has a growth on
her kidneys (was on the right side under her ribs) and an enlarged
spleen and had me feel them (you can actually see them without touching
them).

The veterinarian suggests that she not have surgery due to her
bloodwork. She took a cbc and blood panel and gave some results over
the phone: albumin 3.0, bun 30, creatin 1.1, calcium low, potassium
low, and anemic at 36%. She wants to give her vitamin supplements for
the low potassium and calcium 2X a day. And I believe she said
steriods (I am a mess right now). I am supposed to pick all of this up
tonight after work.

She is eating and has normal bowel movements. The only difference is
that she sleeps a lot. She scratches in her dirt box but does not jump
around and becomes tired easily.

Not sure if I should get a second opinon or if she is right about not
having the surgery. Missy is 4 years old.
