That makes sense, I have never had an intact hob before, I expected him to be
far more aggressive to my other boys once in season.

**Some are, some aren't. Generally, we house our intact hobs separately, but
have had some that live with other ferrets (females or altered) quite
happily. It's mostly when you put two intact males together that you would have
severe aggression problems. If all of your other ferrets are altered, I wouldn't
expect too many problems, although the intact boy may try to mate with them!**

The red gunk is only concentrated on his tail where he's losing fur and
itchy, the rest of him is actually dry so we dont want to bathe him. Its like he is
over producing in some areas and none in others.

**I would still consider bathing him to remove the red discharge, then
condition his skin with a good conditioner (I like the Hylyt bath oil, but lots of
them are very good). If you're not supplementing his diet with a good source
of fatty acids, then start.**

This puts my mind more at ease knowing its not some bubonic rash.
Would you recommend we let it go, or consult my vet if it doesnt clear up?

**I'd observe for now, based on what you're describing, with close attention
to whether things change. But again, I haven't seen him, so you're the only
one who can decide whether he needs to be examined again or not. It should go
away after he's neutered or comes out of season.**
