Back before it was known how readily ferrets can take transfusions one of our vets who
was probably the best veterinary surgeon we have ever had used to gently pat down the
spleen before removing it to return as much blood as possible to body before it was
removed.
We've had a few who had spleens removed in tha last 26 years, none in recent years, and
all did better without them, but their spleens were absolutely huge and negatively
impacting their quality of life.
In case the poster or the treating vet doesn't know, ferrets don't have different blood types
(unless something new has been found) so transfusing from a large ferret tends to work
well.
