Milo is a 2 yo male with IBD. He has had periods of diarrhea, stomach pain,
tooth grinding, dark tarry stools and weight loss. He is being managed with
0.25mg of prednislone daily. He weights 1 lbs 12 ozs. I also use carafate
when needed.

I have recently started dividing his pred dose in two. 0.15 in AM and 0.10
in PM...so he has meds every 12 hrs. This is given with a feeding of
marshal's Uncle Jims duck soup and chicken babyfood.

He has had two espisodes of low blood sugar. The first I found him nearly
unconscious...limp and cold. He had soiled himself. He was given large dose
of karo syrup as he was still able to lick off my finger. Within an hour he
was holding his head up. but still could not walk...hind end weakness and was
flopping around ...I call this drunk walking.

I then gave him chicken babyfood and the uncle JIms. Added warm towels,
pain meds and carafate. He was whining.
An hour later he had improved and was looking for food and water. So he was
had feed some more and put to bed with another ferret for warmth. In the
morning he was back to normal and standing at kibble bowl eating.

Out vet said to continue to watch him and check his BS if this happens
again. Get him back into the clinic.

This weekend I had another repeat. No stomach pain...just low blood sugar.
Dazed looked, shallow fast breathing, barely conscious. Unable to walk.
After 3 rounds of Karo and two rounds of chicken babyfood. At blood sugar
check revealed 51.

Any suggestions? I have continued with his feeding routine and place him
back in the sick cage alone.

In the past 2 days he has gone back to playing dooking and stealing. He is
eating well and stools look good for him. His weight is actually increasing.
1lb 14 ozs.

I am using a freestyle glucometer...how accurate is the results? what
should I expect as a norm for him? should I be checking his blood sugar daily?

Thanks

Toni
