Subject: [ferrethealth] RE: Insulinoma and metastasis- was: Blood Glucose checking question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My Bandit had insulinoma, and a few years after his diagnosis and
great progress, he became very ill quickly after his best friend died.
An ultrasound revealed what appeared to be a possible liver mass, but
upon exploratory (our last resort due to his poor quality of life at
that point), he had a malignant islet cell tumor (several samples were
submitted for pathology) that had invaded not only his liver, but
basically his entire omentum-it encompassed both kidneys, much of the
liver, part of the stomach, etc. The prognosis would have been grave
no matter what, and the tumor was too friable to even resect. We
elected to put my baby to sleep after surgery due to his poor quality
of life and poor prognosis. But it did come back as a malignant islet
cell tumor, FYI...

Best of luck,

April (not a vet-vet tech and ferret owner)
