Subject: [ferrethealth] Insulinoma/Adrenal & Brewer's Yeast
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Lucy has insulinoma and we've been medicating with Pred since she was first diagnosed.
We decided not to do the surgery because of her age. We had an episode where she
swallowed a string a few months ago and when they put her under for xrays she stopped
breathing. Lucy is 7 years old now.

Our new vet has recently increased her pred to .5 (what the vet mixed up) until we get our
new bottle that is compounded by her recommended pharmacy - the stength will be
stronger therefore we won't have to give such large doses.

This morning i woke up and found that lucy could barely move her hind legs. I called the
vet and they said increase her pred to .6 2x's/day. And I'm giving her Kitten A/D several
times during the day. From midway up her back up - she is fine - and alert and peeing
now. I haven't gotten her to poop yet in the last few hours. The second time I spoke with
my vet she recommended I sprinkle Brewers Yeast on the A&D. Ok - so this was from a
vet and NOW I'm reading on here NOT to put it on her food. She recommended I put it on
the food to help regulate her blood glucose.

Lucy's bc was 49/50 the other day. She is also adrenal yet her liver, white blood cell
count, and all the other important numbers were fine.

Any suggestions besides "get her to the vet?" We decided awhile ago to just make her
comfortable. Just wondering if this "weakness in her hind legs" is a sign of the end??? or
of a symptom of the insulinoma??? or the adrenal??? or the prednisone??? Other than the
weakness she is eating well, alert, etc ...

Your speedy response to this is greatly appreciated!

Karen
