Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] Acidophilus supplements...

When my ferret Ronan spent an extended time on antibiotics, my vet recommended giving him 1/4 (one quarter) capsule of the refrigerated kind of acidophilus twice per day. The capsules I bought at Whole Foods contained powder which I mixed with a little linatone to get Ronan to take it, which he did with no difficulties. It was regular adult, non-dairy. Can't really say one way or the other whether it made a big difference or not, but it certainly didn't seem to hurt.
According to the staff person I talked to at Whole Foods, generally speaking the refrigerated acidophilus is of higher quality than the non-refrigerated brands.
(Whole Foods, for those who live in areas without one, is a health food supermarket chain in the US.)
